Why Product Intelligence Matters for AI Shopping
AI shopping depends on reliable product intelligence that explains fit, tradeoffs, compatibility, and limitations.

If an AI agent were choosing between your product and a competitor’s, would it understand why yours is the better fit?
An AI agent needs to understand which products fit a customer’s intent, how they compare, and what tradeoffs matter.
Even a detailed customer profile cannot compensate for shallow product knowledge. Knowing someone’s preferences only helps if you can establish which products meet them. Personalization depends on connecting both.
That requires product intelligence: reliable knowledge of a product’s uses, suitability, compatibility, and limitations.
Waiting for agentic commerce to mature before investing in that intelligence leaves a lot of work until the moment you need it.
Retailers and brands already hold valuable expertise across merchant teams and suppliers. Customer questions and return reasons reveal where that knowledge is missing from the buying experience. Making it usable takes sustained work. A new model or integration will not automatically bring it together.
AI can help extract facts from specifications and manuals, connect related information, and flag missing or conflicting details. Validating those facts and keeping them current builds an asset that supports buying decisions across your website, marketplaces, and external shopping agents.
The cost of waiting also exists today. When customers cannot establish whether a product meets their needs, the business risks losing a purchase despite having the right product.
I believe this deserves a place in the investment plan now. Start with a category where understanding suitability makes a meaningful difference to sales, and use AI to build and maintain the knowledge needed to support those decisions.
You have already invested in making your products worth choosing. Making that value understandable to AI is becoming part of protecting that investment.
